Lt. Col. Jason Ferguson was inducted into the Order of Military Medical Merit on August 16 at Fort Drum, New York. The Order of Military Medical Merit recognizes members of the medical field who have served for over 12 years and have made a significant contribution to the field.
In addition, members have demonstrated a high degree of moral character and professional competence in their work.

Ferguson, an Austin, Texas native, is currently the Division Surgeon for the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum. He is also serving as an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at multiple schools, including the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Honolulu, Hawaii. He previously served as the Division Surgeon for the 82nd Airborne Division.

“More than anything, it’s just complete humbleness and gratitude that I’m feeling right now,” Ferguson said.

He said he was grateful for those who have trained and mentored him in his career. Ferguson also said that he was thankful to have been challenged and presented with opportunities that many of his colleagues did not have.

Ferguson received over 8 years of medical training, including specialty training at the Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii. He said that the most challenging thing he has encountered in life has been going through the many years of medical school. He said that it is difficult to separate being a medical professional in a hospital and being an Army officer, too.

“What I’m really proud of is, that my family and I have done it together the whole way. They’ve supported me,” Ferguson said. “Its been a challenge that I have definitely welcomed.”
