DALLAS – The Army & Air Force Exchange Service is hosting interns from the U.S. Military Academy for the first time this summer, underscoring the Department of Defense retailer’s commitment to supporting Warfighters—past, present and future.
Cadets Thomas “TJ” Bordeaux of New Haven, Conn., and Christian Falk from Buffalo, N.Y., rising juniors at USMA, are spending three weeks at the Exchange’s Dallas headquarters completing Advanced Individual Academic Development in cybersecurity as part of their graduation requirements.
Bordeaux and Falk are part of the Department of Engineering and Computer Science at West Point, and they will learn from leaders in the Exchange’s Information Technology Directorate as well as executives and other West Point graduates.
“Having TJ and Christian here with us this summer is truly special—they are exceptional Cadets,” said Exchange Director/CEO Tom Shull, USMA Class of ’73. “It is truly a privilege to partner with West Point for the first time on this program to help the Nation’s future military leaders broaden their knowledge in their field of study and remind them the Exchange is there for them throughout their military career.”
Bordeaux and Falk are already learning more about the Exchange and its mission of serving those who serve.
“When we get to our first unit and are commanding Soldiers, we can help them understand what the Exchange is there for—how it’ll be there when they deploy, how it supports after-school programs and school lunches overseas,” Bordeaux said. “It’s a lot more than a retail outlet.”
Falk agreed.
“Not everyone understands their benefits,” Falk said. “The Exchange does a lot to help us.”
