LOGISTICS SUPPORT AREA ANACONDA, Balad, Iraq -- Each unit, in all branches of the military has a very unique mission while supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Soldiers from the 814th Engineer Company, 507th Engineer Battalion, 30th Engineer Brigade, are among the many Army units with a unique mission in Iraq.
As engineers, these Soldiers are tasked to complete a variety of missions, including the Oct. 12 installation of mine booms on the Tigris River.
Mine booms are floating devices installed on water to prevent or intercept mines and other explosive devises from building up in a certain area. In this particular situation, the mine booms were installed to provide protection for a nearby bridge that is frequently used for the delivery of supplies throughout Iraq.
"This mission is one more step towards stabilizing Iraq. The more secure their country is, the sooner they will be able to stand on their own as a free country," said Staff Sgt. Jeff Durham, 814th En. Co.
Realizing the mission's importance, the group of Soldiers gladly accepted the task and completed it in three days with no interruptions or set-backs.
"The Soldiers always put a lot into our missions here. They are motivated, ready to work hard and always exceed expectations."
