JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO, FORT SAM HOUSTON, TEXAS ─ U.S. Army Installation Management Command’s leadership continued its integration as a major subordinate command of Army Materiel Command May 28, with a visit from Gen. Gus Perna, AMC commanding general.
“Your job is to make life better for our Soldiers and their families on our installations, and make them the best places to live and work,” said Perna.
This was the first mission command visit by to Perna since the realignment of IMCOM under AMC March 1, and focused on how IMCOM enables readiness and provides the foundation for the Army’s all-volunteer force.
“From IMCOM’s perspective, we enable readiness,” said Lt. Gen. Bradley A. Becker, IMCOM commanding general. “Our purpose, the reason IMCOM exists, is to enable the Army to put a trained and ready Soldier down range.”
Becker and the IMCOM staff discussed priorities and how they are synchronized with the Strategic Support Area, enabling installations to be power projection platforms.
“Your approach is right,” said Perna. “There’s a lot going on in our world, and we need to truly assess ourselves to ensure what we’re doing is enabling our Soldiers and their families. We get graded on our output in support of Soldiers and families.”
The realignment of IMCOM under AMC consolidates base operations and other similar support functions under one command, leveraging the Army's existing expertise in installation protection, logistics, sustainment and services.
“This was a great first visit -- very helpful to me, and I appreciate it,” said Perna.
