38th Infantry Division soldiers begin their pre-mobilization training on Sunday, May 5 at Camp Atterbury, Ind.
Pre-mobilization training prepares soldiers with the necessary knowledge to proficiently support the deployment mission, Task Force Spartan.
Spc. Blake K. Ross, a radar technician with the 38th Infantry Division, is taking advantage of his pre-mobilization training.
“So far, anti-terrorism has had a strong impact on my training,” said Ross. “It has showed me an unbiased side of this deployment, no matter where I end up.”
While soldiers are learning in the classroom, they are also setting goals and deciding what they want to accomplish during their time overseas.
“I’m looking forward to different experiences with different cultures that we don’t experience in the U.S.” said Ross who is excited to see how other cultures thrive in such a different environment.
Sgt. Nicholas W. Turner, a fire support specialist with the 38th Infantry Division, volunteered for the deployment so pursue opportunities to improve himself.
“Basically, I’m looking forward to self-development,” said Turner, who wants to focus of his mental and physical health. “It is harder normally with all the distractions at home.”
As a part of the operation, the 38th Infantry Division will foster partnerships to develop and increase security and reliability throughout the Middle East.
