    ILLINOIS, UNITED STATES

    05.03.2019

Story by Petty Officer 2nd Class Kyle Hafer

    Commander, Navy Recruiting Command

GREAT LAKES, Ill. — Cmdr. Joshua L. Jones relieved Cmdr. Joseph D. Scott as Navy Recruiting District (NRD) Chicago commanding officer, May 3, during a change-of-command ceremony held at the Navy Recruit Training Command Chapel.
Scott, a native of Jonesboro, Arkansas, received his commission in 1999 through the Nuclear Power Instructor officer candidate program.
Scott assumed command of NRD Chicago in October 2017 and is transferring to Naval Personnel Command in Millington, Tennessee, to be the Assistant Director of Distribution Management (PERS-45B).
In his remarks, Scott expressed his confidence in turning over command to Jones.
“I have had the pleasure of working with Cmdr. Jones and I am certain he is the right person to lead NRD Chicago to achieve its potential and make a successful transition into an NTAG,” said Scott.
As the next commanding officer, Jones will be guiding NRD Chicago through its transition into a Navy Talent Acquisition Group (NTAG).
The Navy is currently in the process of transforming all current recruiting districts into NTAGs in its efforts to ensure that the best men and women are placed into jobs in which they will excel, guaranteeing continued mission success and sustaining the Fleet, while also providing the best quality service and customer support throughout the recruiting process.
Jones, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, received his commission in 2001 through Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida, and earned his flight wings in 2002. He has deployed in support of Operations Unified Assistance, Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, and Inherent Resolve.
Jones served as a Joint Operations Officer in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, prior to reporting to NRD Chicago in 2018 where he served as executive officer.
“It’s an exciting time in Navy recruiting and an honor to be part of team Chicago,” said Jones. “I look forward to continuing the tremendous efforts of Cmdr. Scott and seeing what Chicago can accomplish over the next year.”
Navy Recruiting District Chicago is assigned 61,945 square miles across Northern Illinois, Northwest Indiana, Eastern Wisconsin and the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It includes 46 recruiting stations divided into nine divisions charged with the mission to provide the Navy Fleet with the proper quantity and quality of Sailors to keep our Navy and our Nation strong.
Navy Recruiting Command consists of a command headquarters, three Navy Recruiting Regions, 18 Navy Recruiting Districts and eight Navy Talent Acquisition Groups that serve more than 1,300 recruiting stations across the world. Their combined goal is to attract the highest quality candidates to assure the ongoing success of America’s Navy.
