Story by Petty Officer 1st Class Laura Myers

    Naval Medical Center - Portsmouth

Naval Medical Center Portsmouth’s (NMCP) HM3 Camilo Builes was recently accepted to the United States Naval Academy.
“I was introduced to the Naval Academy in middle school when one of my friends invited me to watch the annual Army/Navy football game at his house,” Builes said. “Although his family were West Point fans, by nature of being raised in a beach town, I was more inclined towards the Naval Academy. The more I learned about it, the more my desire grew to become a part of the Brigade of Midshipmen.”

Builes reports to the Naval Academy Preparatory School in July.

“I plan on pursuing a service assignment into the Naval Special Warfare or EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) communities,” Builes said.

Builes was also recently selected as NMCP’s 2nd Quarter Junior Sailor of the Quarter. He is an outstanding Sailor who models the Navy’s initiative to lead Sailors into the future. His versatile, efficient and noteworthy work ethics continuously propel his department and clinic into the forefront of NMCP leadership. His infectious attitude contributes to an environment centered on excellence. With his innate ability to lead Sailors, Builes is committed to the command mission.

As the U.S. Navy's oldest, continuously-operating military hospital since 1830, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth proudly serves past and present military members and their families. The nationally-acclaimed, state-of-the-art medical center, along with the area's 10 branch health and
TRICARE Prime Clinics, provide care for the Hampton Roads area. The medical center also supports premier research and teaching programs designed to prepare new doctors, nurses and hospital corpsman for future roles in healing and wellness.
