Children raced across the field searching for brightly colored Easter eggs during the Easter Event April 21 at Combined Arms Training Center Camp Fuji.
The event invited children and families from the local community to celebrate the Easter holiday with various games and crafts.
“Easter is not a common holiday in Japan,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Kyra Wisnicky, a religious program specialist with CATC Camp Fuji. “This event being on Easter Sunday gives the Marines and sailors a chance to get out of the barracks and get involved with the community.”
Children were invited to participate in a variety of traditional Easter games including an Easter egg hunt, spoon-egg race and a three-legged race.
“At the beginning of the Easter event my boy was a little nervous to interact with the Marines,” said Mariko Yonekura, a participant from the local community. “But after a little while he found the Marines were very helpful and friendly towards him.”
The Marines and sailors were each assigned a group of children to lead throughout the day. They were able to interact and share their Easter traditions with the local community.
“I’m hoping this event helps build a better relationship between the Marines and the local community,” said Wisnicky. “I want them to know they can trust us and experience American culture with us.”
CATC Camp Fuji provides U.S. Forces the premier training facility in Japan, supports operational plans, and strengthens relationships with Joint and Japanese partners in order to ensure U.S. forward deployed and based forces are ready for contingency operations.
