FOB WARRIOR, Iraq -- The artillerymen of the 116th Brigade Combat Team's Task Force 1-148 Field Artillery recently fired their 1,000th 155mm artillery round since being deployed to Iraq.

The achievement marked a milestone for this Army National Guard unit that, before its current deployment to Iraq, hadn't seen combat action in almost 50 years. The event was noted in an e-mail from TF 1-148 Field Artillery Executive Officer Maj. David Vesser to unit leaders August 19.

"Let it be known that yesterday, 18 August 2005 on Fire Mission QE 8300 â?¦ in which 11 rounds Illumination were fired that the 1-148 FA fired its 1000th 155mm round in Iraq," read Vesser's message.

"Noted for historical records in the history of the 1-148th FA," the message continued.
Vesser's message was not strictly for historical purposes, he also congratulated the unit's soldiers on a job well done.

"Great job, keep up the stellar work HOW BTRY and all your supporting elements...FIST Teams, Ammo support, FDC's, and all else contributing to your success," he said at the close of his message.

TF 1-148 Field Artillery, as part of the 116th BCT, supports the efforts of the government of Kirkuk Province in the areas of education, communication, infrastructure, economics, and security.

The 116th Brigade Combat Team is composed of units from Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Utah, North Dakota, Maryland and New Jersey. The unit is comprised of headquarters and staff sections, the 2nd and 3rd Armor Battalions, the 1-148th Field Artillery Battalion, the 1-163rd Mechanized Infantry Battalion, the 145th Support Battalion, the 116th Engineer Battalion, and various intelligence, signal, and specialized units, such as Civil Affairs.
