NRD New York Holds Change of Command

Story by Bruce Howard, Public Affairs Officer, Navy Recruiting District New York

NEW YORK – Navy Recruiting District (NRD) New York held a change of command ceremony where Cmdr. Christian Gaskill, from Indianapolis, Indiana, was relieved as the commanding officer of NRD New York by Cmdr. Christopher Kendrick, from New Orleans, Louisiana, March 22.
The event was held on board the USS Intrepid Museum in New York City and also served as a retirement ceremony for Gaskill, concluding his 21 years of dedicated service as a Navy officer.

“I'm honored and humbled to accept the responsibility as NRD New York's commanding officer,” said Kendrick. “I plan to build on the outstanding leadership of Commander Gaskill as well as the exceptional talent, resourcefulness, and steadfast devotion of all of the Sailors and Civilians onboard.”

Gaskill assumed command of NRD New York on 28 July 2017, and credits the districts success to the strong team work of the commands respective Sailors.

“To the Officers, Chiefs, Sailors, and civilian team of NRD New York, it has been the highest honor of my Navy career to have served as your Commanding Officer,” said Gaskill. “Together we have advanced the readiness of the United States Navy with relentless effort to recruit, mentor, and ship to Recruit Training Command the finest young men and women New York and New Jersey have to offer. I cannot think a better way to end my Navy career than to have been involved in shaping of the next generation of Navy leaders.”

Gaskill’s departure from the command and the Navy opens the door for Kendrick to take charge of NRD New York and lead the future of the command.

“We will do what is hard,” said Kendrick. “We will achieve what is great and together we will lead Navy Recruiting into the future as we build our country's Navy's combat team.”
