Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support employees celebrated Women’s History Month with a live musical performance and interactive presentation during an annual observance program held March 13 in Philadelphia.

The Women’s History Month program theme was “Visionary Women: Champions of Peace and Nonviolence.”

Liz Fletcher Brown, a dancer, awarding winning author and thought leader in the field of personal transformation served as the keynote speaker, captivating the audience through her unique storytelling and words of wisdom.

“Visionary women, they are champions of peace and nonviolence,” Brown said. “They know that they are connected to their core and the depths of their being. That’s the key to their resilience. That’s what gives them the ability to overcome obstacles, and to be able to face defeat over and over again…never giving up.”

At several different times during her 20-minute presentation, Brown posed conversation prompts to the audience. This included audience members telling the person sitting next to them about a women who’s influenced their life, and to share their personal sense of purpose as a few words on a t-shirt.

“Mine would probably be something like, ‘live with full wattage,’” Brown said with a chuckle. “I don’t believe in holding back.”

After a very lively, at times comical, and interactive presentation, she concluded her message on a serious note, referencing this year’s theme.

“Visionary women know what really matters most to them,” Brown said. “They know what is worth taking a stand for and in some cases what is worth risking their life for.”

Keeping with DLA Troop Support tradition, the program culminated with an award ceremony.

“Long before the formal recognition was established, women have been making their mark on this country and continue to do so today,” Army Brig. Gen. Mark Simerly, DLA Troop Support commander said. “Today, we’ll honor some of our colleagues for blazing a trail for others to follow as exemplary models of public service and government leadership.”

The ‘Woman of the Year’ awardees in their respective categories were:
◾Non-supervisory GS-9 and below: Gina Breleur, Troop Support Europe and Africa,
◾Non-supervisory GS-11 and above: Jennifer Hamby, Audit Readiness
◾Supervisor/Manager of the Year: (TIE) Shevaughn Jorsling, Construction and Equipment and Army Lt. Col. Latrina Lee, J3/5
