To allow U.S. service members and community members to learn more about U.S. Army history, the U.S. Army Transportation Museum at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, hosts a brown bag lunch series on the second Wednesday of every month at 11:30 a.m.

Each month’s lecture focuses on a different theme involving U.S. Army history. The lecture for March will be combined with the installation’s Women’s History Month recognition event on March 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Jacobs Conference Center.

“We want to bring people into the museum so they can experience the roles of the museum on Fort Eustis and to educate them on a specific topic,” said Alisha Hamel, Transportation Museum director. “Hopefully, [they find] the topic interesting, and it expands [their] knowledge about Army history.”

The February lecture was led by Isaac Hampton, Fort Lee quartermaster historian, in recognition of African Americans’ service during the Vietnam War.

“We had Dr. Isaac Hampton and he talked about African Americans during Vietnam in the war and at home,” said Hamel. “He talked about officer rating systems during that time and we had great audience participation with that one because some of [the attendees] had actually dealt with the issues he was talking about.”

For April, the topic will revolve around the Army Art Program and have an official Army artist discuss visualization of Army history and various art forms.

Once a quarter, the museum also hosts an evening presentation. The upcoming event will be on April 25, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. and cover the history of weapons and why they have evolved over time.

All attendees are encouraged to bring lunch while listening to the presentation. For more information, call the Transportation Museum at 878-3411.
