MILLINGTON, Tenn. (NNS) – Electronics Technician 1st Class Christopher Carr was recognized and awarded as Navy Recruiting Command (NRC) Classifier of the Year for 2018 during the Recruiter of the Year a ceremony at the Navy Memorial in Washington D.C., Jan. 24.

Selection for this award is a testament to Carr’s talent acquisition expertise and his positive impact in the local community.

Attendees of the event included Adm. William Moran, vice chief of naval operations, Vice Adm. Robert Burke, chief of naval personnel, Rear Adm. John Nowell, director, military personnel plans and policy, Rear Adm. Brendan McLane, commander, NRC, Rear Adm. Andrew Mueller, deputy commander, NRC, Command Master Chief of NRC, Donald Charbonneau, and National Chief Recruiter, Master Chief Navy Counselor Franklin Tiongco.

“You are all the best of the best, and I’m privileged to recognize these 17 individuals who have gone above and beyond their roles as Navy recruiters,” said Burke. “Their dedication and commitment has really raised the bar for their fellow recruiters.”

Carr is currently assigned to Navy Recruiting District Ohio and credits his selection for this award by prioritizing his efforts.

“I joined the Navy to better my life,” said Carr. “It just seemed like the best opportunity out there. Not many jobs can match the benefits and opportunities that are offered through the military.”

The ceremony concluded a thunderous applause from family, friends and the senior Navy leadership attending.

“Today the nation is asking us to build a bigger, more capable, more talented fleet,” said McLane. “One that is networked, agile, and ready to stand up to near-peer competitors. And these Sailors are doing just that. The recruiters of the year represent the challenges, rewards and opportunity that is woven throughout recruiting nation, and it is my absolute honor to work for them every single day.”

Carr was selected for this award from more than 6,100 Navy recruiting personnel and represents the most successful recruiter in his respective field.
NRC consists of a command headquarters, two Navy Recruiting Regions, 20 Navy Recruiting Districts and six Navy Talent Acquisition Groups that serve more than 1,300 recruiting stations with a total force of more than 6,100 personnel across the globe. Their combined goal is to attract the highest quality candidates to assure the ongoing success of America’s Navy.
