CAMP FOSTER, OKINAWA, Japan – III Marine Expeditionary Force Band kicked off their annual Christmas Concert with a performance called “It’s a Wonderful Corps,” Dec. 5 at the Camp Foster Theater.

The concert is a free and open to the local and military community Dec. 6-8. The performance is based off the holiday classic movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

“We follow the movie closely and assimilate it to the daily life in the Marine Corps,” said Cpl. Victor Boyda, a basic musician with III MEF band. “We showed the challenges and the good times that we experience in the day-to-day workings of an enlisted Marine.”

The performance followed the story of a sergeant who wished he never enlisted in the Marine Corps after being placed on duty on Christmas Eve and a heavenly angel who shows him the consequences that wish would have had on his life and those around him.

“The highlight of this is twofold,” said Chief Warrant Officer Andres Navarro, the officer-in-charge of the III MEF Band. “The first is the Christmas spirit we bring to the Marine away from home and family. We are a family and she should celebrate together. The second part allowing the band members, as Marines, to let their hair down and enjoy themselves with a performance they helped create.”

The four-day production offers five showings and many improvisations from the Marines. The performances bring classic Christmas songs and Marine Corps humor into a new light to entertain audiences of all ages.

“At the end of the concert, we invite the children up on stage to sing with us,” said Navarro. “It’s a good way to celebrate Christmas together.”
