DALLAS – Soldiers, Airmen and military families at select military installations will soon have access to the latest wellness trend: cryotherapy.

The Army & Air Force Exchange Service has partnered with U.S. Cryotherapy to open the first cryotherapy center on a military installation at Fort Hood in November. Centers at Forts Benning and Jackson are already planned, and the Exchange has received requests from Command to bring cryotherapy to Army posts and Air Force bases at several installations throughout the country. The cold treatment services aim to promote faster recovery and better athletic performance.

“Our shoppers want to take ownership of their health and wellness, and the Exchange is committed to making diverse options available to them,” said Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Luis Reyes, the Exchange’s senior enlisted advisor.

The cryotherapy center is the latest wellness addition from the Exchange, which recently unveiled in-store sports nutrition shops stocked with pre- and post-workout supplements, sports drinks, vitamins, high-protein snacks and more. The Exchange also began opening durable medical equipment shops—which sell braces, fitness bands, CPAP machines, crutches and more—in 2018, while continuing to expand optical and dental services.

“The Exchange wants to promote a holistic wellness for our military community,” Reyes said. “Whether that’s healthier meal choices at our Expresses and restaurants, a wider selection of sports nutrition products or newer technology like cryotherapy, Exchange shoppers have more choices to help keep them ready and resilient.”

U.S. Cryotherapy offers a variety of cold therapy services, including Whole Body Cryotherapy that does not use liquid nitrogen or other hazardous chemicals.
