Army Reserve cyber leader prepares for next phase of mission readiness

ADELPHI, Maryland – An Army Reserve cyber command in the greater D.C. area welcomed a new commander to the ranks during what proved to be a weekend of recognition and advancement.

U.S. Army Lt. Col. Lora Hamilton, the new commander of the Army Reserve Cyber Operations Group (ARCOG), 335th Signal Command (Theater), National Capital Region Cyber Protection Center, exchanged authority with Lt. Col. Michael Ehrenhofer, former commander of the unit, before a gathering of Soldiers, colleagues and family during a change of command ceremony Sept 23, at the Army Research Laboratory in Adelphi, Maryland.

Conducting the transfer of authority for the leaders was Command Sergeant Major Timothy Sullivan, senior enlisted advisor for the NCRPC and
Col. Robert S. Powell, Jr., ARCOG commander.

In his remarks during the ceremony, Col. Powell acknowledged the leadership efforts of both the incoming and outgoing leaders and their contributions to the command.

Under Ehrenhofer’s tenure, NCR continued to meet training requirements, medical readiness and complete the milestone’s needed to put NCR into the required Initial Operation Capability status for the cyber unit, Powell explained.

“When called upon, Lt. Col. Hamilton has always done what was asked of her,” Powell said, as he mentioned the different responsibilities and leadership roles she held with NCR prior to being selected as commander.

“You are the right person for the job. You have always succeeded and will continue to do so,” Powell said of Hamilton as he concluded his remarks.

In response, Hamilton thanked the ARCOG commander for attending the ceremony and for being a mentor.

“In this time of transition and growth for NCR to become cyber qualified, Lt. Col. Ehrenhofer put in the time and sacrifice needed to succeed in those challenges over the past two years,” Hamilton said.

Even though Hamilton acknowledged there are challenges still ahead to complete command requirements, her willingness, compassion and excitement was evident as she gave praises to the Soldiers of NCR.

During that extended September Battle Assembly weekend, the ARCOG and 335th SC (T) recognized deploying Soldiers assigned to a detachment from the Western Cyber Protection Center and also recognized the tenure and contributions of other Soldiers from the NCR.
