DALLAS – Before the latest hurricane to threaten the United States even had an official name, the Army & Air Force Exchange Service put the wheels in motion to fully support Soldiers, Airmen, military families and first responders in harm’s way.

The Exchange began preparing Saturday for Hurricane Michael, which is poised to slam Florida’s Panhandle this week.

More than 2,000 emergency supplies—including bottled water, gas cans, generators, flashlights and batteries, were on their way to Exchanges in Florida and Georgia.

“The Exchange is ready,” said Chief Master Sgt. Luis Reyes, the Exchange senior enlisted advisor. “Our teams began monitoring this storm and gathering information to gain awareness of the potential impact very early and push emergency supplies to those who will need them in the coming days.”

Exchanges at Eglin AFB and Hurlburt Field in the Florida Panhandle are open today, but expected to close Wednesday, if not sooner, depending on command evacuation orders. An Express is likely to remain open during the hurricane.

The Tyndall AFB Exchange closed after a mandatory evacuation was ordered Tuesday.

Shoppers can check their local Exchange Facebook page for up-to-date information on store hours and closures.
