NAVAL BASE KITSAP-BREMERTON, Wash. – Force Master Chief James Tocorzic from Commander, Naval Air Force Pacific met with the Chiefs Mess of the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68), Aug. 15, during a visit to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility where the ship is undergoing maintenance.
This tour included a visit to Naval Air Station Whidbey Island and Naval Base Kitsap.
Tocorzic also took time to meet with the ship’s newly announced first classes selected for chief petty officer during their Chief Initiation season aboard Nimitz.
“My visit is really two-fold,” said Tocorzic. “I get to come out here and talk to the Chiefs Mess, especially the new chief selects to help them and help maintain their focus, but I also get to look at the ship’s day-to-day operation and see the progress being done to get back to operational readiness.”
This was Tocorzic’s first visit to the Pacific Northwest region as Force Master Chief for COMNAVAIRPAC, and his first visit to Nimitz while homeported in Bremerton, as is in dry dock at PSNS & IMF.
“We love that we get to showcase our ship,” said Nimitz’s Command Master Chief, Rick Mengel. “I can talk on the phone about our progress and how great the crew is doing, but it’s different when you actually get to come out here and see it first-hand.”
Nimitz is currently conducting a docking planned incremental availability at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility where the ship is receiving scheduled maintenance and upgrades.
