The 50th Space Wing Chaplains Office will host a Blended Families retreat in Breckenridge, Colorado, July 27 - 29.

“A blended family refers to one or both spouses having children from a previous marriage,” said Maj. Martin Adamson, chaplain with the 50th Space Wing. “With this, there are unique aspects when bringing families together. What’s great about this retreat is that it will be an opportunity to build resiliency among the families.”

This will mark the first Blended Family retreat the Chaplain’s office will host this year.

Staff Sgt. Joshua Jones, noncommissioned officer in charge of chapel administration, is looking forward to seeing the retreat come to fruition.

“I started planning this event two months ago,” he said. “We have not hosted this retreat in the past few years, so we are especially looking forward to it. This will be a great opportunity for everyone to get out and experience Breckenridge.”

The two-day retreat will feature classes from the Center for Relationship Education counselors, outings in Breckenridge and a movie night.

Through these opportunities, the retreat strives to help Schriever’s members discover the essentials for creating a thriving family.

Families will also have the chance to experience outdoor activities such as zip lining, challenge courses, climbing walls, ropes course and gondola rides.

According to Adamson and Jones, having retreats such as these are vital for Schriever AFB members and their families.

“I think it is important to take care of the human weapon system,” Jones said. “Retreats and workshops we host are meant to provide resiliency tools for Schriever Airmen and families to fall back on when that time comes. We want everyone to know we are here for them. It is also important for people to get away and have downtime.”

Adamson also highlighted the importance of the retreat.

“We are all so busy these days,” he said. “Parents are working and kids are going different directions, which is why it’s good to have that time to focus on being together. This lands during a great time, since school will start back up again soon.”

Adamson and Jones both encourage families to sign up for the retreat and hope to see a good turn out.
