CAMP BONDSTEEL, Kosovo – Multi-National Battle Group - East conducted a shadow "Run to Home Base" 5K, hosted by Soldiers of the Southern Command Post of the Massachusetts National Guard, at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo, July 14.

Capt. Timothy S. Kranz, Headquarters and Headquarters Company Commander for the Massachusetts National Guard's 3rd Battalion, 126th Aviation Regiment, contacted the Home Base organization to coordinate Soldiers conducting a shadow run of the actual "Run to Home Base" event to be held July 28, when participants will finish 9k and 5k races at the Boston Red Sox’s Fenway Park home plate.

“Home Base is an organization that takes care of service members and this event is a good opportunity to make people more aware of the organization–that service members do end up having issues that they need to get handled, and it’s just an excellent morale boost,” said Kranz.

Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital program, is dedicated to healing the invisible wounds of veterans, service members and their families through world-class clinical care, wellness, education and research.

Multi-National Battle Group - East Soldiers enjoyed spending their Saturday morning supporting an organization that gives back to veterans. The Soldiers ran a 5k race on Camp Bondsteel finishing by stepping on a home plate. The run was filmed for viewing on the Jumbotron at Fenway Park during the actual Run to Home Base races on July 28.

The Soldiers of Multi-National Battle Group - East are deployed to Kosovo on a nine-month security and stabilization mission. They are part of Kosovo Force (KFOR), which is responsible for contributing to a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement for the people of Kosovo.

“The event went well," Pfc. Jacob R. Smith, a Military Policeman, with the 977th Military Police Company, 97th Military Police Battalion, 89th MP Brigade, said of the Saturday morning 5k run on Camp Bondsteel. “It’s a really good thing that people take time out of their mornings to support a good organization that really does help brothers like us out.”

Since its inception, Home Base has served more than 15,500 veterans and family members with care and support, trained more than 67,500 clinicians, educators and community members nationally and remains at the forefront of discovering new treatments – ensuring a brighter future for the 21st century warrior and military family.

“I really would like to thank the Home Base organization. They really do help people out,” said Kranz. “Our physician assistant actually has referred people to the Home Base organization before, to get them help. They’re an excellent organization.”
