WRP employees meet with Troop Support commander

    PHILADELPHIA, PA, UNITED STATES

Employees hired through the Workforce Recruitment Program learned that “trust, discipline and commitment” were three things that the commander of the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support found vital to his success when they met with him July 10 in Philadelphia.

The WRP employees, college students and recent graduates with disabilities hired for the summer, gained insight about Army Brig. Gen. Mark Simerly’s motivations and learned about Troop Support’s mission impact.

Simerly shared his family’s military heritage – both his father and his father-in-law served – and how his experiences as a leader have shaped his philosophies.

Students then introduced themselves and shared some of their life experiences with Simerly, some of which related to Troop Support.

Isaura Arguello, a student from Puerto Rico, was there when Hurricanes Irma and Maria devastated the island. She experienced Troop Support’s impact without knowing it.

Simerly described the mission of Troop Support as one that, if done right, is invisible to the customer.

“I find that to be an excellent goal to strive towards,” Edward Dalton, a recent graduate of Temple University’s master’s program in bioengineering, said.

More information, including how to participate in the program as a student, employee or employer, can be found on the Department of Labor’s WRP web page.
