The 20th Communications Squadron hosted a technology exposition at the Carolina Skies Club and Conference Center, May 16.

The expo provided a networking experience for Airmen to explore innovative ways to solve problems and foster partnerships with industry experts.

“First and foremost, this is an opportunity to talk to people who are not wearing the uniform, but are doing similar work the Airmen do,” said Tech. Sgt. Matthew Kuchera, 20th CS plans and projects noncommissioned officer in charge. “On a day-to-day basis an Airman’s going to talk to other Airmen, NCOs, senior NCOs and officers, but they don’t always get the chance to talk to Joe Somebody who works the same type of mission just from a civilian standpoint.”

During the event, attendees spoke with subject matter experts from outside companies to explore new technologies, discuss problems that may arise with current technology, and organize training conferences.

“The goal is really just networking and having those conversations about the future and innovation,” said Elizabeth Teune, National Conference Services event manager. “It’s good for young Airmen because they might be working with some of the technology here years from now. Some of these companies already have contracts with Shaw so you can come and troubleshoot with them if you’re having any problems.”

The 20th CS has hosted tech expos since 2015, using guest feedback to continuously update and improve the diversity of business representatives and develop highly-skilled professional Airmen. The next event is slated for May 2019.
