MILLINGTON, Tenn. – Walter T. Aldridge, a district education specialist for Navy Recruiting Command's (NRC) Operations Department, retired after 41 years of service to the Navy recruiting mission, June 7.

Aldridge began working for NRC in 1977 when the original base of operations was located in Washington, D.C. and has been an invaluable member of the recruiting enterprise throughout his career.

“Walt has been an institution in recruiting, you would be hard pressed to find anything new that we roll out that he hasn't seen implemented, disbanded, and implemented again,” said Cmdr. Doug Barnard, the director of operations for NRC. “Losing someone with that level of corporate knowledge always stings, but what makes it tougher is losing Walt's unwavering positive outlook and desire to gain knowledge and improve our business. Over the years, I have relied on his sage counsel countless times. Walt will be missed!”

Aldridge has made a lasting impression on many Sailors and civilians, but his colleague of 41 years Charles Diggs considers him to be a brother and his closest friend.

“Walt is a top notch guy and a great family man,” said Diggs. “He doesn’t talk a whole lot because he listens, and with a friend like Walt, you’ll have a lifetime relationship that you can count on. That’s the kind of guy he’s always been.”

Aldridge had this to say about his retirement and time spent with NRC: “I’ve made a lot of good memories in these 41 years,” said Aldridge. “My desire was to help out the Sailors in the field. They have a hard job! It’s a hard job in recruiting, and I’ve done everything I could to help them, and I’m happy knowing I did that.”
