    NEW YORK -- More than 50 Marines and Sailors participated in the annual Memorial Day Parade in Hastings-on-Hudson during Fleet Week New York City (FWNY) on May 26, 2018.
    The parade was a mile long and included guest speaker Vice Admiral Dixon Smith, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Fleet Readiness and Logistics (OPNAV IN FOUR).
    “Thank you Hastings for the recognition you provide every Memorial Day weekend for those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country,” said Smith. “That is in this day and age sometime forgotten and not given the due respect for those who have laid down their lives to allow us to enjoy day in and day out what we call the United States of America. So again thank you very much.”
    Additionally, the parade concluded with a wreath laying ceremony at the World War II Memorial. Also, members of the Veteran of Foreign Wars joined Marines in a 21-gun salute in honor to all fallen military members.
    After the parade, the volunteer fire departments from Hastings-on-Hudson Fire Department Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1 Ladder 22, Protection Engine Company No. 1 Engine 44, Uniontown Hose Company No. 2 Engine 45 and Rescue 100, Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1 Ladder 22, Riverview Manor Hose Company No. 3 Engine 46 and Ambulance Corps. Ambulance 12 and 1.
    FWNY, now in its 30th year, is the city’s time-honored celebration of the sea services. It is an unparalleled opportunity for the citizens of New York and the surrounding tri-state area to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as witness firsthand the latest capabilities of today’s maritime services. The weeklong celebration has been held nearly every year since 1984.
