Airman 1st Class Marjoree Razal, 20th Force Support Squadron food service apprentice, won the award earlier in 2018, earning her a place in a Culinary Institute of America class for executive chefs.

“I was excited when I found out I had won,” said Razal. “It was a very big recognition for me.”

The CIA teaches professional level food service to exemplary members of the American armed service branches. Razal’s ticket to the class was punched by the National Restaurant Association, a partner with the institute.

Razal said the institute teaches a higher level of food production than taught at technical training and she can bring these professional techniques back to Shaw. These techniques include different menus, food and silverware placement and overall meal presentation.

“Razal is the top performer we have here in food service,” said Master Sgt. Isabella Milks, 20th FSS food service operations chief. “She was recognized by the Hennessy Award inspection team, which is an external agency.”

The Hennessy Award team has inspected food service operations at Air Force installations across the world for the last 62 years. It is the most prestigious food service award in the Air Force.

“This is an amazing opportunity for her,” said Milks. “This can propel her all the way to the Pentagon or she can end up in the White House cooking for the president.”

Razal is scheduled to attend the CIA course in September to learn in-depth cooking techniques over the span of 10 days.
