A senior leader from the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support engaged local business leaders at a National Defense Industry Association conference April 13 in Philadelphia.

Air Force Col. Adrian Crowley, director of the Industrial Hardware supply chain, sat on a panel with other Philadelphia-area military representatives and talked about DLA Troop Support’s warfighter support mission.

“Every single one of those warfighters … depend upon [DLA] to provide the necessary equipment and items that they need to get their mission done,” Crowley said. “And we [DLA] rely upon you – the members of NDIA and the vendors out there.”

The conference, hosted by the National Defense Industry Association’s Delaware Valley chapter, provided a forum for the many vendors that work with the Defense Department, in addition to the DOD representatives.

NDIA Delaware Valley Chapter President Joseph P. Welsh said the conference promotes collaborative communications “that help our industry better understand what our defense services need so we can deliver what they need.”

Among the other speakers were members of the Office of the Secretary of Defense, NDIA leaders, industry leaders from large and small businesses, and representatives of Philadelphia-area military and defense agencies. A common theme of each presentation was the importance of cooperation in the acquisition process to best serve the nation.

Jerry McGinn, the principal deputy director for DOD’s office of manufacturing and industrial base policy underscored the importance of Troop Support’s participation in the conference.

“It’s really important for all parts of the Department to engage with industry because we don’t do things on our own,” McGinn said. “So having Troop Support here is really, really important because it gets them closer to the companies that help support our troops.”
