Members of the military community gathered for the 2018 Marine Corps Community Services Color Me Fun Run April 7 aboard Camp Foster.
The goal of the color run is to promote a healthy lifestyle and raise awareness for the Month of the Military Child and Autism.
“Everything we did today was in celebration of the children in the military and to help raise awareness about autism,” said Mysael Santolaja, an Exceptional Family Member Program Outreach specialist with MCCS.
The color run drew together single Marines and families alike. Children excitedly threw their vibrant color chalk in the air as parents, strollers and pets lined the start line. Marines from across Okinawa gathered to volunteer, helping set up, throw color and take down the tents.
“Today we had 2,400 people register for this event,” said Herb Gray, program manager of Camp Kinser school age, youth and teen center. “It was our best turn out yet.”
This was the fifth year that MCCS has hosted the event. It also was the largest turn out despite the chilling wind. After months of MCCS EFMP and Family Care Branch’s diligent planning, it was a success.
“My favorite part is when everything comes together,” said Santolaja. “We will definitely be doing this again, around the same time next year, so keep your eyes open.”
