Athletes of all ages pushed themselves to their limits during the 7th Annual Trikids and Women’s Only Triathlon March 17 aboard Camp Courtney.
The triathlon tested the participant’s abilities in swimming, biking and running events.
“There was a nice turn out this morning,” said Kris Albrecht, a participant in the women’s only triathlon. “I came out to run with my children, so we could do something fun together. It was nice that this is non-competitive and short for the kids doing their first race.”
Participants had to complete a 50-meter swim along the shore of Camp Courtney’s beach, then transition to a 2-kilometer bike route and finish with a 1-km run. Parents encouraged their children throughout the race, pushing them to keep going until the end.
“This is a great opportunity,” said Col. Maria McMillen, the assistant chief of staff for G-5, planning, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. “Marine Corps Community Services always puts on a really great triathlon and swim program for the kids here in Okinawa.”
Two more trikids and women’s only triathlons are scheduled for Camp Foster and Camp Kinser later this summer. For more information visit www.mccsokinawa.com/aquatics/.
