Friends and family gathered in St. Paul, Minn., Tuesday to watch the promotion of Maj. Gen. Jon Trost, the deputy adjutant general of the Minnesota National Guard who has taken a position with the U.S. Army's Training and Doctrine Command at Ft. Monroe, Va.
Trost was pinned with his new two-star rank by his wife Karin and Maj. Gen. Larry Shellito, the adjutant general.
Trost's colleagues, including current Minnesota Army National Guard staff as well as several retired officers, took the occasion to congratulate him and wish him well.
As a major general at TRADOC, Trost assumes the duties of the deputy commanding general for the Army National Guard and is the primary Army National Guard integrator across TRADOC, coordinating and promoting effective communication between TRADOC Headquarters and TRADOC schools. Additionally, he is the National Guard Bureau liaison on major policy issues and program impact to the Army National Guard.
Trost recently retired from management at Coon Rapids High School and leaves the Minnesota National Guard after 38 years of service.
