Navy Recruiting Command (NRC) has been awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation (MUC) Award for commendable service during a command all-hands call, March 5.
The MUC award is presented by the Secretary of the Navy to any unit which has distinguished itself by either valorous or meritorious achievement compared to other units performing similar service.
Commander, Navy Recruiting Command Rear Adm. Peter Garvin comments on NRC’s newest award.
“This represents all the hard work and dedication of the entire recruiting force,” said Garvin. “You should all be proud of what our team has accomplished.”
Yeoman Seaman Brianna Price, admin clerk of the flag secretariat office of NRC, expresses her excitement about being a part of the NRC team and receiving the award.
“I feel like this is just the beginning,” said Price. “We have been recognized for our performance over the last few years and Navy Recruiting shows no letting up. We strive for the best and always will.”
The Sailors and civilians of NRC understand the importance of what they do and receiving an award of this level demonstrates that they are making a difference to the fleet.
“This award is pretty significant to me,” Cryptologic Technician (Interpretative) 1st Class Justin West, branch program manager for the Intelligence Warfare Community and Sailor of the Year for NRC. “The Meritorious Unit Commendation Award is something you don’t really see, not everyone has one. It is a huge honor for NRC to have gotten it.”

The award continued: “In the wake of the Chattanooga, Tennessee attack, they worked extensively with Fleet Forces Command, the Office of the Sectary of the Navy, and the Office of the Secretary of Defense to develop a comprehensive Antiterrorism/Force Protection program that created a culture of vigilance and active defense-in-depth.
