DLA Troop Support based team recognized for outstanding contract support

    Story by JOHN DWYER

    Defense Logistics Agency

A Defense Logistics Agency team that supports the Corpus Christi Army Depot was recognized for their part in helping keep military helicopters ready for flight.
The CCAD Industrial Product-Support Vendor team was thanked by Air Force Col. Adrian Crowley, director of DLA Troop Support’s Industrial Hardware supply chain, for outstanding warfighter assistance and partnership through management of an estimated $135 million contract with KLX Aerospace Solutions Defense LLC.
This multidisciplinary team from DLA’s Troop Support and Aviation commands ensures 9,140 different parts are readily available to fill approximately 13,000 parts bins.
These products are used at CCAD, the world’s largest rotary wing aircraft repair facility, to fix and overhaul U.S. military rotary wing aircraft and their components.
“The local and distributed partnerships between CCAD, KLX, DLA Aviation and DLA Troop Support Industrial Hardware are a real strength,” Crowley said.
Since contract implementation, the IPV team has completed hundreds of 24-hour turn-around “spot buys.” These spot buys authorize procurement of items not available from DLA or vendor stock, but needed quickly to facilitate repair processes.
In order to authorize the buys, team members must research comparable markets for the item to determine a fair and reasonable price, and ensure the best value to the customer and taxpayer.
To create efficiencies in response to CCAD needs, the IH team moved 483 items from DLA to vendor sourcing through contract modifications.
The sourcing change shifts responsibility for acquiring these items to the vendor, while DLA retains management oversight of the contract, quality and cost. According to Crowley, this often provides the customer with a quicker lead time on material.
“Industrial Hardware’s strong collaboration with all stakeholders, to include DLA Aviation, has resulted in unparalleled customer support to CCAD,” Crowley said.
This support contributed to CCAD’s near-100 percent success rate in acquiring the right amounts and types of hardware, and an estimated savings of more than $1 million to date.
IPV contracting officer Tom Smith said the CCAD IPV program benefits military readiness.
“[The CCAD IPV contract] provides consistent on-site response to immediate customer requirements, reduces lead time and increases material availability,” Smith said.
Crowley was glad to take the time to recognize the team.
“It is a great privilege to work with Hardware heroes … that reflect so positively on DLA in support of the warfighter,” Crowley said.
The members of the CCAD IPV team who were recognized are:
