NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 9, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is managing releases as appropriate at its dams on the Cumberland River and its tributaries in preparation of a forecasted rainfall event Feb 10-12. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for much of the Cumberland River Basin and is forecasting the potential for some rivers and streams to surpass flood stage.

The Cumberland River at Nashville (Riverfront Park) is forecasted by the NWS to crest at 31.0 feet Monday morning. Flood stage is 40 feet. Clarksville is forecasted to crest at 39.8 feet on Monday at noon. Flood stage is 46 feet.

Stages on the Upper Cumberland River will also be affected with minor to moderate flooding expected.

    - Pineville, Ky., forecasted to crest Sunday morning at 1006.8 feet. Flood stage is 1002 feet.
    - Barbourville, Ky., forecasted to crest Sunday noon at 33.5 feet. Flood stage is 27 feet.
    - Williamsburg, Ky., forecasted to crest Sunday afternoon at 28 feet. Flood stage is 21 feet.

Depending on the rainfall totals and intensity, unregulated tributaries of the Cumberland River may be affected as well. Appropriate flood watches and warnings would be issued by the National Weather Service. Additionally, river stage forecasts are updated at least daily.

Nashville District’s water managers are closely monitoring the Cumberland River System and communicating with local, state, and federal partners to best regulate releases from the basin’s 10 multipurpose reservoirs.
