    Terrorists Destroy Home with Rocket

    FOB WARRIOR, Iraq -- Iraqi Police and soldiers from the 116 Brigade Combat Team responded to a rocket attack in a residential neighborhood in Wahid Huzayran area of Kirkuk, Iraq, July 17.

    Terrorist launched a rocket into a family's home and injured a 44 year old father and his seven year old son. The rocket hit the front roof of the house and exploded. The roof and inner/outer house wall were destroyed as well. This left the living area in shambles and blew out the windows in a 150 foot radius in the surrounding neighborhood.

    "Terrorist continues to kill, maim and destroy the innocent," said Brig. Gen. Alan Gayhart, commander of the 116th BCT. "The good people of Iraq are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to their nearest Joint Coordination Centers (JCC)."

    Providing assistance to Iraqi citizens, Iraqi Army and Iraqi Police is one way the 116th BCT is helping Iraqis in the provinces of Kirkuk and Sulaymaniyah, Iraq. The 116th BCT's multi-faceted mission in Iraq includes establishing security, aiding the Iraqi government, supporting economic development, and facilitating communications.

    The 116th BCT includes headquarters and staff sections, two armor battalions, a mechanized infantry battalion, a support battalion, a field artillery battalion, an engineer battalion and various intelligence, signal, and specialized units.

    With component units from the states of Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Utah, North Dakota, New Jersey and Maryland, the 116th BCT is one of several Army National Guard units that are deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
