    Lead:
When Airman from Sioux City Iowa’s Air National Guard show up for their December training weekend, serving the annual holiday meal is a tradition that is not taken lightly when the guest list over 400.
    Transcript:
It’s Christmas, you’re planning to have a few people over, and the panic sets in. The first thing you need to do is make your grocery list.
    1st lieutenant Joshua Thomas
Services Flight Commander 185th Air Refueling Wing

“150 lbs. of prime rib, we have 35 pounds of pork loin, 150 lbs. of potatoes, we got some masked we got some baked.”
The cooking begins in the wee hours of the morning so you can make sure everything is perfect before several hundred hungry Airmen show up for a special holiday meal.
Thomas- “Getting a meal up, running by 10:30 to be able to feed 400 people is no small feat.”
Each month members of the Air National Guard attend weekend training and need to be fed. The noon meal is a time to take a short break relax, socialize and eat some good food.
During the holidays the dining facility is allowed to step up their game a little and provide a little more and a little better.
Thomas- “It’s a nice little step away from typical meal that you can get on an everyday meal.”
For many they say the annual meal is an important morale booster and it is also a good time to build comradery.
    Staff Sgt. Justine Kelm
    185th Air Refueling Wing Hydraulics

“The foods always really good we always look forward to our little shrimp cocktail that we get and they always have really good deserts and things.”
If the measurement of success is getting people together, then with nearly 500 happy airmen served, the Dining facility staff along with a little help from Santa’s helpers can claim victory over this year’s holiday meal.

KELM- “I think a big part of the holidays is having a meal with your family and were a family out here and we really like to be able to sit down with our friends and have a good meal.”
