CAMP FOSTER, OKINAWA, Japan – The Kitanakagusuku International Friendship Association competed with the Camp Foster Marines in a Friendship Volleyball Event Nov. 7 at Gunner’s Gym aboard Camp Foster.

The competition consisted of four teams, two teams of Marines and two from KIFA. The event gave Marines and members of KIFA a chance to strength their relationship.

“Many Marines don’t get a chance to really talk and learn from our Okinawa partners,” said Col. William DePue, camp commander of Camp Foster and commanding officer of Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Installation Pacific-Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, Japan. “Events like this let us come together and allow us the opportunity to talk, have a friendly rivalry, but mostly to learn about each other.”

Sports are a great way for communities to bond in an energetic atmosphere of sportsmanship and friendly competition.

“Sports have no borders,” said Mitsutoshi Yogi, the deputy chairman of KIFA. “This is a way for us to come together and have fun. We like taking any opportunities given to come and play because sports are a great way to understand each other.”
