Virginia Gov.Terry McAuliffe paid a visit to General Stanford Elementary School students at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va., Sept. 29, 2017.
McAuliffe stuffed food "backpacks" to help Newport News Public Schools’ students understand proper nutrition. The students learned about the significance of supporting the needs of those less fortunate and the power of community service. Students, faculty and guests packed approximately 200 food bags for Newport News Public Schools children.
U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Malcolm B. Frost, Center for Initial Military Training commanding general, spoke to students about the importance of nutrition fueling a child’s educational experience.
The event also included a new playground unveiling. The playground is made of loose building blocks, which encourage creative thinking and allow students to design their own spaces.
