Fort Knox, Ky.- The U.S. Army welcomed its 61st Adjutant General, Brig. Gen. Robert W. Bennett, during a ceremony hosted by Maj. Gen. Jason T. Evans, U.S. Army Human Resources Command commanding general, at the Lt. Gen. Timothy J. Maude complex, Fort Knox, Kentucky, Sept. 21, 2017.
In addition to his duties as the Adjutant General, Bennett also assumes the roles of the Military Postal Service Agency executive director and Commanding General of the U.S. Army Physical Disability Agency.
“Very few organizations in our Army have the breadth and depth of responsibilities equal to the TAG (Adjutant General), PDA (Physical Disability Agency), and MPSA (Military Postal Service Agency),” said Evans. “The complexity of these combined mission sets demand a leader of incredible strength and character.”
The Adjutant General Corps dates back to June 16, 1775, when the Continental Congress appointed Horatio Gates as the first Adjutant General to George Washington. It is the Army’s second oldest branch, the first being Infantry.
Today, the adjutant general directorate, headquartered within the U.S. Army Human Resources Command, develops, manages and executes human resources policies, programs and services to maintain Army readiness. It provides human resources support to all Soldiers, Veterans, and their families.
“Gen. Creighton Abrams Jr. commented, management of the human resources is the Army’s single most important function,” said Bennett. “I take this task seriously, and it will be done.”
Bennett comes to HRC from the U.S. Army Cadet Command where he served as the Deputy Commanding General. He follows Brig. Gen. James T. Iacocca, who retires after 30 years of military service.
Under Iacocca’s leadership, the Adjutant General Directorate implemented the Army’s revised noncommissioned officer evaluation report, modified the Army’s tuition assistance policy, and initiated the development of a new academic evaluation report.
“While there’s still so much to do, I know the team at the TAG, MPSA, and PDA have taken it (Human Resources) to another level. We have the correct systems and people in place for Brigadier General Bennett to succeed,” Iacocca said.
