The small team loaded their equipment aboard a West Virginia Air National Guard C-17 at Buckley Air Force Base to stage in Mississippi for onward movement into Florida after Irma passes.
Capabilities of the Squadron include signal interoperability, meaning they can relay and "translate" various radio signals for first responders, who may be using disparate equipment. They have the ability to restore communications quickly as equipment in Florida will be disabled or destroyed by Hurricane Irma.
