    Funeral services to be held for Navy Petty Officer Dustin Doyon

    SUFFIELD, CT – Funeral services honoring the life of U.S. Navy Electronics Technician 2nd Class Dustin Louis Doyon will be held Sept. 11-12.

    Doyon, 26, died Aug. 21 due to injuries sustained while serving aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) when the ship was involved in a collision with the merchant vessel Alnic MC while underway east of the Strait of Malacca and Singapore.

    Tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 8 the remains of Petty Officer Doyon will arrive at Bradley International Airport and will be escorted by the Suffield Police Department to the funeral home.

    The public is encouraged to gather in Suffield Center in the vicinity of the Suffield Veterans Memorial (Route 75 and Bridge St.) at 4:45 p.m. if they desire to honor and show respect to the procession and family as they make their way to the funeral home. A media staging area will be available at the former Bridge Street School, located at 90 Bridge St.

    On Monday, Sept. 11 from 4 to 8 p.m., public calling hours will be held at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, located at 443 East St. N. in Suffield (Rt. 159). A media staging area will be located across the street from the funeral home on the southeast corner. Media will not be permitted on the grounds of the funeral home.

    On Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 10 a.m., a memorial service and Catholic Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, located at 446 Mountain Rd. in Suffield. Media vehicles will not be permitted in the church parking lot. Media will be able to park at the Suffield Police Station, located at 911 Mountain Rd. Following the Mass, the memorial procession will travel by the Police Station en route to the cemetery.

    A private military burial will be held immediately following the Mass at the West Suffield Cemetery, located at 878 Mountain Rd. in West Suffield. The burial will be open to immediate family and friends only. A media staging area will be located near the cemetery. Suffield Police officers will be on-site to provide instructions.
