JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. – The U.S. Army Reserve’s 99th Regional Support Command hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 13 for the Staff Sgt. Jonah E. Kelley Army Reserve Center here.
“If you’d been in the facility prior to the renovations, you remember the way it used to look,” said Maj. Gen. Troy D. Kok, 99th RSC commanding general, to military leaders, business partners, family members and service members attending the event. “If you’ve not been in this facility since then, I invite you to walk around and see how it’s changed as our Army has changed.”
The center underwent a $13.5 million full-facility revitalization by Boro Construction, allowing Soldiers to train in an up-to-date, energy-efficient facility that represents the next step toward ensuring America’s Army Reserve remains the most capable, combat-ready and lethal federal reserve force in the history of the nation.
“This upgraded and modernized facility will utilize the best and newest technologies available, enhancing unit-specific training for our Soldiers,” said Rich Everett, legislative assistant to U.S. Congressman Chris Smith.
The 71,400-square-foot training center, 6,400-square-foot unheated storage building and 3,200-square-foot organizational maintenance shop will service more than 350 Soldiers from five Army Reserve units.
“We’re here for you, we’re here to support you, and we believe in the mission,” said Bob Smyth, field representative for U.S. Congressman Tom MacArthur.
The facility is certified LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver, allowing the Army Reserve to reduce it’s impact on the environment, while at the same time saving taxpayer money.
“I am very proud to serve with personnel who make sure this is the flagship facility it was intended to be,” said Col. Peter Tan, commander of the Army Reserve’s 7301st Medical Training Support Battalion and facility commander of the Kelley ARC.
