FOB WARRIOR, Iraq -- Iraqi Police rushed to the scene where a Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) detonated prematurely, killing its maker and injuring the other in Kirkuk, Iraq, June 6.

The Domies Police were patrolling a residential area when they heard an explosion. The officers quickly secured the area and determined a VBIED was being assembled when it detonated prematurely, killing one Anti-Iraqi Force (AIF) member and injuring another.

According to reports from the Domies Police, the individuals were wiring a VBIED at the House of one of the terrorist, when the Toyota Corona taxi prematurely detonated.

The home owner attempted to flee then scene when the Domies Police Department shot and wounded him. They took him to the Azadi General Hospital under police supervision.

The homeowner's wife and child were home during the VBIED Premature detonation. The Infant received minor wounds from Shrapnel and was taken to a hospital.

According the local Muktar, the couple and child have only been living there for about three months and didn't associate with neighbors.

Unknown who the supposed target for the VBIED was for, a search of the house resulted in two 130mm rounds, four 120mm artillery rounds, Improvised Explosive Device (IED) making material consisting of blasting caps already tied and ready to be inserted into a round.

There were several Motorola radios, wires, cords and batteries found at the scene.
A democratic Iraqi Government undertook considerable effort to save this terrorist's life, in contrast to what he intended to do to those he believed in that same government, according to a Domies Police Officer.

The mercy shown to him by the Iraqi Government serves as a reminder of how twisted terrorism is.

"Terrorist's have no respect for Islam or the lives of fellow Muslims, including innocent women and children." said Brig. Gen. Alan Gayhart, commander of the 116th BCT. "They inflict pain, suffering and death on others and sometimes themselves."

Providing emergency assistance to Iraqi citizens is one way the 116th BCT is helping Iraqis in the provinces of Kirkuk and Sulaymaniyah, Iraq.

The 116th BCT's multi-faceted mission in Iraq includes establishing security, aiding the Iraqi government, supporting economic development, and facilitating communications.

The 116th BCT includes headquarters and staff sections, two armor battalions, a mechanized infantry battalion, a support battalion, a field artillery battalion, an engineer battalion and various intelligence, signal, and specialized units.
