Soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade attended a running clinic held on Fort Stewart June 8.
The clinic focused on warm up and running techniques designed to help improve Soldiers’ run times.
Sandra M. Elliott, a retired U.S. Army physical therapist and current owner of Georgia Game Changers running company taught the class of about 30 Soldiers.
“This is a natural running clinic,” said Elliott. “It’s designed to teach participants about the elastic components of the body and how they can use that and dynamic stretching and strengthening to help improve their run.”
The clinic started out in a classroom setting, where Elliot explained basic physiology and gave the Soldiers tips on running techniques like how their feet should be striking the ground and where their body weight should be in relation to their stride.
Following that, the group moved out to a track where they could try out some of the warm up exercises and observe each other as they ran to make sure they were using the new techniques they’d learned.
“I hope I opened their minds to a whole new way of thinking about running,” said Elliot.
