Combat Center patrons came together for a day of fun and laughter during the Pro and Glow Frisbee Golf tournament, hosted by Marine Corps Community Services, at the Desert Winds Golf Course aboard the Combat Center, June 2, 2017.
MCCS hosted the event, which featured presentations from a professional golfer and a professional Frisbee golfer for the purpose of introducing Combat Center patrons to the sports and showcasing the golf and Frisbee golf courses aboard the base.
Peter Johncke, trick shot master and professional golfer performed a variety of golf tricks with both regular and trick clubs. His act consisted of hitting a golf ball with a chain connected to the club and the handle, hitting the ball while blindfolded, and using two clubs at the same time.
“The Marines give up so much of their lives that I want to show my support,” Johncke said. “I also wanted to show them that golf is a great sport that can be done with families.”
Chris Brophy, professional disc golfer, demonstrated different ways of to play Frisbee golf. He showed the spectators how to throw for distance and accuracy as well as the differences between Frisbees used by professionals. Brophy then had members of the audience compete against each other.
“This event is important because it lets the Marines know what kinds of things they can do out here on base.” said Rachael Pennington, special events manager, MCCS. “Frisbee golf is a great way for them to come unwind, have fun, and just enjoy the day.”
