USA defeated Germany and Canada defeated the Netherlands in three straight sets each to rise to the second and third place positions after day-three action of the 18th Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) World Women's Military Volleyball Championship (2017) on June 6th at the Mayport Fitness Center on Naval Station Mayport, Florida.

U.S. Air Force Capt. Caroline Kurtz of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado led the Americans with 17 points as USA defeated Germany 25-17, 26-24, 25-16.

"They really came together as a team today, the most they've played for each other so far" said Head Coach Kara Lanteigne. "If we come in and do our job, we'll be in a good position for the rest of the tournament."

USA's win raised them to second place as they face the Netherlands on Wednesday, June 7th. A win against the Dutch team will launch the U.S. into the finals.

Canada rebounded from back-to-back losses against the U.S. and Germany with a sound victory over the Netherlands, winning 25-22, 25-18, 25-7.

Canada's Kara Stephan led the Canadians with 15 points off of 11 kills. With Canada's three-set victory over the Netherlands and a 3-2 loss to the Americans, Canada earned enough points to move up to third place ensuring them into at least the bronze medal match.

USA faces the Netherlands as China faces Germany on day four (June 7th) of the competition. Canada has the day off.
