NEW YORK – The Fox & Friends morning show hosted the BoneFrog Challenge during a live broadcast designed for friendly competition between the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, in celebration of Fleet Week New York (FWNY), May 25.

The BoneFrog Challenge by HESCO is comprised of five obstacles, ranging from climbing a 12-foot vertical wooden wall to belly-crawling in a pit of mulch underneath a low-fastened wire mesh cover. The cold and rainy weather did not deter the four members from each branch who participated in the challenge.

“It’s cold!,” said Ensign Jared Smoot, from Crown Point, Indiana, who belongs to USS Kearsage (LHD 3) from Norfolk, Virginia. “I have been involved in Fleet Week before, but this is my first time participating in an event like this – I’m excited.”

Smoot stands at a towering 6-foot-ten-inches tall and is clearly a site to see when surrounded by the other average-sized service members. And although his height is impressive, his athletic abilities are also his top-notch.

During the BoneFrog Challenge, some service members were hindered by the ultra slick conditions of the apparatus, due to heavy rainfall. Smoot was always there to assist a fellow service member to complete an obstacle and ensuring their safety.

“I have been in the Navy for a total of 6 years and I love exercising my ability to be my best,” he said.

FWNY, now in its 29th year, is the city’s time-honored celebration of the sea services. It is an unparalleled opportunity for the citizens of New York and the surrounding tri-state area to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as witness firsthand the latest capabilities of today’s maritime services. The weeklong celebration has been held nearly every year since 1984.
