Story by Tech. Sgt. Jim Araos

    Space Launch Delta 30

Col. Gregory Wood, 30th Space Wing vice commander, visited the 30th Logistics Readiness Squadron, here, April 7.

Wood assisted Senior Airmen Christopher Champagne and Nathan Sine, 30th LRS vehicle maintainers, remove the wheels of an Altec crane to experience the day-to-day operations of a vehicle maintainer.

“The goal of Wood’s visit is to interact with Airmen within his command,” said 2nd Lt. Keith Link, 30th LRS vehicle management officer in charge. “He was able to see the 30th LRS mission and what it takes to keep the base afloat.”

The hands-on experience also gave Wood a chance to see how the Air Force is developing and supporting its Airmen.

“It was a unique opportunity to be able to show our commander what we do,” said Sine. “It’s nice to know that our commander is intrigued and passionate about our mission. It was a cool experience for me and I hope he was able to learn something new.”

After changing tires, Wood toured the rest of the squadron’s maintenance facility and greeted the rest of the unit.

“It was a lot of fun to get back and get my hands dirty,” said Wood. “I understand what these guys do because it keeps the base running. Everything they do is what’s behind our mission here, so it keeps everything rolling for us. They’re the heart and soul of what we do. They keep the vehicles moving--keep the mission moving.”
