Refurbished building at Camp Langmack to serve

The former two-story building, now a move-in ready one-story, is equipped with new electrical and network wiring, sheetrock, doors and door frames, and regimental crests for the growing presence of British forces supporting Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve’s mission to help the Government of Iraq defeat Da'esh. At Al Asad Air Base, units are constantly improving their expeditionary working and living spaces.

"We depend on the contributions from our coalition members, and this refurbished building affords our British colleagues the space needed to operate effectively," said U.S. Marine Corps Col. Frid Fridriksson, commander, Task Force Al Asad.

The biggest challenge in refurbishing the building was the long supply chain to get materials to the air base from the United Kingdom, according to the commander of the Sapper team. Since it took four weeks to get supplies, inevitable surprises and design changes required creative solutions and adaptive construction techniques.

"When we developed our design, the building was occupied and some rooms were not accessible to us. Developing a partial build design, compounded with the long supply chain in an expeditionary environment, caused some natural delays," the Sapper commander said. "It took us 13 weeks to build out what would have otherwise been a 6-week project. I'm glad to finally have a complete office building ready to be turned over for use by our forces."

When the British coalition members move to their new headquarters building, those combined coalition members who comprise the training mission will move into the former British headquarters building. The combined coalition members include U.S., British, Danish, Latvian, and Estonian military units who provide basic combat training to Iraqi security forces .
