EAFB installation access changes with REAL ID Act requirements

EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, ALASKA, UNITED STATES

    01.20.2017

Story by Staff Sgt. Ashley Taylor

    354th Fighter Wing

To comply with federal law, Eielson Air Force Base will no longer accept state-issued identification from certain U.S. states for unescorted visitor access to the installation as mandated under the REAL ID Act.

Visitors who are not in compliance will be denied unescorted entry to federal installations and will require a Common Access Card/dependent/retiree identification holder to escort them at all times. Personnel in possession of a valid Department of Defense issued identification card are not affected by this change.

The REAL ID Act of 2005 established federally mandated requirements and standards for the production and issuance of state driver’s licenses and identification cards. The time line below outlines when individuals with driver’s licenses from the following states and territories are impacted:

10 October 2016: Missouri, Minnesota* and Washington*.

NOTE: Minnesota and Washington both offer an enhanced driver’s license that will allow escorted entry on the installation.

30 January 2017: Kentucky, Maine, Montana and Pennsylvania

6 June 2017: Alaska, California, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina and Virginia.

Additional forms of REAL ID compliant identification that may be used in conjunction with a state issued identification to request access to the installation include:

Current U.S. Passport or U.S. Passport Card
    Federally-issued Personal Identification Verification card
    State Department Driver’s License
    Border Crossing Card
Department of Homeland Security Trusted Traveler Cards
    Veterans Health Identification Card
    U.S. Permanent Resident Card
U.S. Certificate of Naturalization or Certificate of Citizenship
    U.S. Refugee Travel Document
    Current foreign government passport

NOTE: Common Access Cards, dependent and retiree cards are still acceptable for personal entry.
