KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- The U.S. Air Force Reserve’s 403rd Wing hosted an Inactive Ready Reserve Muster June 11 to ensure inactive reservists’ readiness.

The muster allows military personnel in an IRR status to make sure they still meet Air Force standards, said Tech. Sgt. Karen Moore, a 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron loadmaster who coordinated the event.

Members go into an inactive ready reserve status when they leave an active, guard, or reserve component of the military but still have time to serve on their enlistment contract.

“Even though they are in an IRR status, they have a requirement to keep their information accurate in case they are called upon to serve,” said Capt. April Martin, 403rd Force Support Squadron military personnel section flight commander.

Col. Frank L. Amodeo, 403rd Wing commander, said he volunteered to host this year’s muster to assist in recruiting experienced Airmen to help fill vacancies in three squadrons in the wing: the 815th Airlift Squadron, 36th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron and a new aircraft maintenance squadron.

More than 116 inactive reservist attended the muster. Recruiters from the Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, and Civil Air Patrol went over opportunities to rejoin the military, and 35 of the attendees took them up on their offer.

“It’s a chance for them to come back and muster up everything together, and give them the opportunity if they want to get back in,” said Moore. “The recruiters are right here, and we can get their information to them.”

The participants also updated their civilian employment, medical and contact information. Personnel from different departments also assisted members with getting identification cards and veteran benefits they are entitled to, said Moore.
