SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. – With operational readiness exercise Weasel Victory 17-03 designed to keep Airmen on their toes, it can be hard to catch a break.

That is where the 20th Fighter Wing Diamond Council stepped in, delivering food to squadrons participating in the exercise across Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, Nov. 15-17.

An ORE can be stressful for all those involved due to the faster operational tempo and extended shift hours – not to mention the simulated attacks and injuries injected to test the skills and knowledge of Airmen.

“We wanted to give back to the Airmen (who) are working really hard out there,” said Master Sgt. Jonathan Curl, 20th Medical Group first sergeant. “They’re motivated, they’re ready to do the mission, and we just wanted to make sure that they have food to eat for lunch. They’re working long schedules, most all of them are working 12-hour shifts. We just want to say thanks for their hard efforts.”

During lunch on Nov. 16, the first sergeants cooked 260 hamburgers, 60 hot dogs, and 235 bratwursts for the Airmen, and provided hot chocolate and donuts to those working the night shift.

Every exercise the first sergeants are out doing something for the Airmen, said Senior Master Sgt. Tameka Taylor, 20th Contracting Squadron superintendent.

“We love the first sergeants,” said Senior Airman Lauren McCall, 20th Force Support Squadron store room operations specialist. “We were so glad they brought us food and boosted our morale during these 12-hour shifts.”
